Broken Bow - Light by samhawkeye Broken Bow - Light by samhawkeye
An image from The Ranger's Tale: Broken Bow, a short fan film project about rangers set in Middle Earth that I am working on. :)

It is about a young ranger caught in a conflict between rangers and Easterlings in the early days of King Aragorn's reign.

I'm watching with great interest as you guys put this project together. Looks really fun!
Incidentally, have you ever ventured over onto the Middle Earth Ranger Forums? I bet the folks there would be very interested to see this when it's done, and of course it's always nice to have another fellow Dunedain on the boards :)

Yes, someone did send me a link to those forums before and I had a look around, but it was just a bit too intimidating for me! I'm nowhere near that level of dedication! ;)

Haha, to be honest, neither am I. I'm mostly in it for the costuming, but as I've hung around the forums a little I've become very interested in the rest of the "ranger lifestyle" if you will.
Anyway, you can be sure I'll at least be sharing your video on there when it's finished!

Haha, go ahead. =p
Have to say that when filming in all kinds of weather you quickly figure out what extra bits and pieces you would want to add if you had to live in the costume all the time! More waterproof (leather) layers, a bit of warm fur during winter and so on. ;D

Yeah, I bet. I'd imagine your "cold weather gear" - with the bits of your Jon Snow costume thrown in - worked pretty well in that regard.

It certainly did! Still want to have a long leather duster like Strider has; that seems to be the ideal thing!

Tell me about it. I found the PERFECT leather for it a few months ago, at less than half-price, but I couldn't justify the expense, so I let it slip through my fingers. I think I'm going to kick myself forever about that one. I've never found anything like it, before or since.

Frustrating when that happens! I've never really found the material I want for it - what I might do is buy a second hand long leather coat which is too large for me, take it apart and put it back together again more roughly. It's far less expensive like that.

Love the light in this. Was this early in the morning or in the evening? Either way.. this light sure makes for a great scenery and overal atmosphere.
I'm still eagerly awaiting this fan project! :typerhappy:

It was at around one or two in the afternoon! But is was dark by four, so relatively evening-ish. ;)
Thanks! x)

I like how dramatic it is with the light and the tree's shadows. Amazing photo by the way.

Thank you! I hope we live up to expectations! :D
For most of us this is pretty much the first time we're doing something like this, and and compared to photos it's so much harder to make film consistently beautiful or interesting, but sometimes (such as in this case) nature does all the work. ;)

I am sure it will be great! And if the film shows off more of that beautiful landscape (and of your cool group) then I am certain I will like it! :D I really like the story concept as well!

If I was in your area, I could offer assistance with the fighting scenes. As a martial artist, I've been taught to set up fighting scenarios.

That would have been good, as that is one of our weak areas! Unfortunately we seem to be on different continents. We do have someone who trains in medieval swordfighting who tries to deal with our inexperience.. ;)

Well if you need advice on that, send me a message. If you want any ideas, I would recommend looking at the sword fighting scenes from LOTR movies, the newer Robin Hood movie (that one is pretty accurate on the fighting), heck even Star Wars (watch the lightsaber handling not the other stuff). The main thing is to keep it real looking.

Thanks! We finished filming the fight scenes and we've kept them mostly short and quick to hopefully indeed keep it looking real!
I did look at the LotR films, as well as Kingdom of Heaven and even Assassin's Creed for the quick takedown. =p
